WORKSHOP DAY Friday 7th October

Breaking Ground: Te Pae Tawhiti computing

We will come together on Friday 7th October to break the ground towards a common vision for unified programmes in IT that deliver on the challenge and opportunities of Te Pae Tawhiti.  This is a day of working together to co-create a direction for the future of IT education in Aotearoa New Zealand.  Working on the basis that classroom tikanga, support etc are all baseline assumptions, our focus is on the IT curriculum.

We have three interactive sessions planned:

9:00 am : Mihi / Introduction

9:10 am : First Session: Foundations:  Exercise on te Tiriti and IT.  Goal is understanding and acceptance that IT education pipeline and IT profession has failed Māori.  Outcome:  Values and principles for process.

10:30 am : Morning Tea

10:45 am : Second Session : Scaffolding: Exercise on visioning an IT profession that contributes to a thriving Tiriti-based ANZ. Outcome: draft vision.

12:00pm : Lunch

1:00pm : Third Session : Lens:  First-look exercise on computing skills/levels through tirohanga Māori. Using the example of Karaitiana Taiuru’s CITRENZ conference keynote on Māori AI we explore the possibilities of looking at areas of computing through a Māori lens. Outcome: Deeper understanding of possibilities and likely directions.

3:00pm : Finish
